08/14/2010 - San Francisco, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Buster Posey hit a leadoff double in the 11th inning and came around to score the game-winning run on Juan Uribe's single to right, as the San Francisco Giants inched closer to the National League West-leading San Diego Padres behind a 3-2 decision at AT&T Park.
Pablo Sandoval homered in the victory, which was credited to Santiago Casilla (4-2) for stranding runners on the corners in the top of the 11th.
The win was San Francisco's fourth in six games and moved the Giants within 2 1/2 games of the division lead.
Chase Headley and Adrian Gonzalez each had two hits and recorded run-scoring doubles for the Padres, who had won five straight, including a 3-2 win in the opener of this critical three-game set.
Both teams had trouble coming through in scoring opportunities, with the Padres going 2-for-18 with runners in scoring position and the Giants being held without a hit in eight chances until the final frame.
In the 11th, Posey greeted Tim Stauffer (3-2) with a two-bagger, and Sandoval was given a free pass before Uribe put a first-pitch offering into right field to drive in the winning tally.
The late-inning drama overshadowed stellar starts from two young pitchers, as 21-year-old Madison Bumgarner yielded two runs on eight hits and two walks over seven innings for San Francisco, while Mat Latos, 22, gave up one run on five hits while striking out nine in six-plus innings, setting a Padres record with his 11th consecutive start of allowing two runs or fewer.
Headley's two-out double in the first inning brought home Jerry Hairston Jr. to give the visitors an early lead.
The Padres stranded the bases full that frame, but got another run in the fifth via consecutive doubles by Miguel Tejada and Gonzalez.
After surviving doubles by Mike Fontenot and Andres Torres in the first and third inning, respectively, Latos got out of a second-and-third, one-out situation in the fifth by fanning Torres and getting Fontenot to pop out.
Sandoval's leadoff homer in the seventh ended Latos' outing, and Ernesto Frieri and Joe Thatcher combined to get out of the inning holding a 2-1 edge.
San Diego loaded the bases with one out in the eighth and again failed to get a run across, proving costly in the bottom of the frame.
With Luke Gregerson on the hill, Fontenot singled, moved to third on Aubrey Huff's double and scored the tying run on a Pat Burrell groundout. Huff moved to third on the play, but was stranded there when Posey bounced out to short and Uribe flied out.
The Padres stranded a runner in scoring position in the ninth, 10th and 11th innings. In the latter, they had runners on the corners and one out and came away empty-handed when Headley struck out and Tony Gwynn Jr. lined to center.
Game Notes
San Diego still leads the season series, 8-2, with seven of those games being decided by one run...Giants starters have not registered a victory over their last 11 games...Jake Peavy was the only other Padres starter to allow two runs or fewer in 10 consecutive starts (2004)...Latos' earned-run average over his last nine outings is a minuscule 0.95. He has give up three runs over a span of 28 innings against the Giants this season...Jose Guillen, acquired by the Giants in a trade with the Royals on Friday, grounded out as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.

MySportsbook.com favors Bears, Bengals, Chargers and Colts to remain perfect
LAS VEGAS , Sept. 28 - Two big match-ups of undefeated teams have fans salivating at the Week Four schedule in the NFL. The Chicago Bears stifling defense looks to provide a less than hospitable welcome to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday night in a battle of two 3-0 teams in the NFC conference. In the AFC, the San Diego Chargers (2-0) head to Maryland to face the surprising Baltimore Ravens (3-0) as both try to keep pace atop the conference standings. Betting Lines makers at MySportsbook.com, online sportsbook and casino, have set the Bears as 3.5 point favorites while the Chargers are a 2.5 point bet.
Of the three remaining undefeated teams, only one, New Orleans, enters this week's game as an underdog. Despite an emotional and resounding win over Atlanta on Monday night, the Saints are a 7.5 point underdog against the struggling Carolina Panthers. Indianapolis looks to stay perfect when they face the New York Jets as a 9 point road favorite while the Cincinnati Bengals are a 6 point favorite at home to the New England Patriots.
Six teams enter the week still looking for their first win, with a seventh, Tampa Bay, on a bye week. The prospect of dropping another game would not bode well for a potential playoff run. Since 1990, just three teams -- the 1992 Chargers, 1995 Detroit Lions and 1998 Buffalo Bills -- have overcome losing their first three games of the season to earn a postseason berth. And only the Chargers managed to accomplish the feat after starting 0-4.

Kansas City, MO - Kansas City has not officially named Matt Cassel its starting quarterback, but there can be no doubt now.
NFL Betting
After praising his leadership and work ethic through spring workouts, the Chiefs announced Tuesday they had signed the 27-year-old Cassel to a multiyear contract. Terms were not disclosed, but he will almost certainly be one of the highest-paid members of the team.
"We are excited to be able to reach a long-term agreement for Matt Cassel to be a Kansas City Chief for many years to come," owner and board chairman Clark Hunt said in a statement. "His proven leadership on and off the field will be a tremendous asset to the organization."
Patriots made him their franchise player, meaning his salary for this season will be about $15 million.
New head coach Todd Haley, taking over for Herm Edwards after a 2-14 season, refused to name a starter at any position during offseason workouts. But it was obvious to everyone the team belonged to Cassel.
"I go out there each and every day with that focus that I'm the starter," Cassel said during a June minicamp. "Competition brings out the best in everybody."
The signing will come as welcome news to Cassel's new coaches and teammates. Amiable and hardworking, online football betting he appeared to win over everyone at minicamp.
"I think he's got some unique leadership qualities. I think his teammates like him and have respect for him. I think he's doing a pretty good job on the field, too," Haley said last month. "He's doing everything that I'm asking him, that our coaches are asking him to do. I don't have one single complaint how he's carrying himself."
After one workout, wide receiver Devard Darling declared Cassel "a breath of fresh air."
"He has a lot of swagger, a lot of confidence. It's good for us," said Darling. "We trust in him that he's going to go out there and lead us all the way."
nse to accommodate his specific abilities.
Trapped on the bench behind Heisman winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart at USC and then unable to unseat Super Bowl MVP Brady at New England, Cassel seemed destined to be a backup all his life. As Brady was helped off the field last September, Cassel seized the opportunity he'd been waiting for since high school.
In his only sustained action since his teens, he hit 349 of 555 passes for 3,949 yards at New England. He had 23 touchdown passes and 13 interceptions as the Patriots, who had gone unbeaten through the regular season the year before, finished 11-5 and out of the playoffs.
Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli, who had been Bill Belichick's assistant in New England, engineered the trade after the Patriots became convinced that Brady would recover fully from his knee operation.
"Since Matt arrived in Kansas City, he has embraced the team and the community," Pioli said. "His work ethic, his ability and competitive presence is what we expect from our players."
