Ilgauskas returns to Cavs for stretch run

03/23/2010 - Cleveland, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Cleveland Cavaliers announced the signing of center Zydrunas Ilgauskas on Tuesday, bringing back the center only a month after trading him to Washington.

Ilgauskas was promptly released by the Wizards after a buyout agreement; the Cavs sent the 34-year-old to Washington in a deal that brought forward Antawn Jamison to Cleveland.

"The entire Cleveland Cavaliers organization...(is) thrilled that Zydrunas is coming back home to help us with our upcoming playoffs mission and hopefully beyond," said majority owner Dan Gilbert. "Things didn't seem quite right around here without the big guy. If there ever was a benchmark to measure what the franchise aspires all of its team members to be...that benchmark would be Zydrunas Ilgauskas."

Ilgauskas had been in the final year of a contract that paid him $11.5 million in 2009-10; he never appeared in a game for Washington. He's played in 53 games for the Cavs this season and has averaged 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds -- both career-lows.

"Having the opportunity to bring Zydrunas back to the Cavaliers is very special for the franchise and our fans," said general manager Danny Ferry. "We're happy, and we feel fortunate that 'Z' wants to be here."

Spending all 12 seasons of his NBA career with Cleveland, Ilgauskas owns per- game averages of 13.9 points, 7.7 boards and 1.7 blocks. Ferry added that Ilgauskas should be available for the team's game on Wednesday against the Hornets.

The team also announced it has waived forward Darnell Jackson.
